Meera Amar, M.D.
Meera Amar, M.D. is board certified by both The American Board of Internal Medicine and The American Board of Endocrinology. After finishing medical school in India, Dr. Meera Amar completed her internal medicine residency in New York at Beekman Infirmary Hospital. She then pursued a fellowship in endocrinology at the V.A. New York Mount Sinai Program. Dr. Amar completed her fellowship at Texas A&M Health Sciences Center in Central Texas.
After becoming the first woman in her family to both complete university studies and pursue a doctorate degree, Dr. Amar established her practice in Waco. She was the first board-certified endocrinologist in McLennan county, and has been in solo practice since 1989.
Dr. Amar's focus in practice is educating and delivering personalized care to each of her patients. She understands that diabetes and endocrine conditions are often complex diseases involving multiple organ systems, which can easily overwhelm patients. Dr. Amar has set up her practice to provide vital resources for patients so they can take meaningful steps to improve their health and quality of life. By imparting knowledge to patients to understand their disease and equipping them with the necessary tools, they can better care for themselves and their loved ones’ health.
Dr. Amar is married to Dr. N. J. Amar, an allergist in Waco. She has two children, both physicians in Central Texas, and two lovely grandchildren. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
